Scarves unlimited, turning a small niche business into an international brand

“Amazon’s Marketplace and fulfilment programme have allowed me to turn a small niche business into an international brand. Amazon customers feel confident in us as a business and as a brand when they see our feedback on Amazon. It was easy to set up and Amazon’s support team is always quick to respond to queries.”

Having an international footprint allowed Maninder to become an official licensee for the BBC Doctor Who scarf range in 2012. This range was such a success over the holiday season that he is now working on five new projects with the BBC.

The romance of diamonds drove Vashi to sell them online - Share your story with Amazon

Vashi Dominguez, the founder and CEO of Diamond Manufacturers, was fascinated by diamonds from an early age. He remembers finding them unique “like finger prints, or snowflakes” when he used to visit jewellers with his father on his home island of Tenerife. Vashi’s diamond passion continued through his gemmology studies into the diamond wholesale business he setup in 2000 in Antwerp, Belgium. Vashi explains, “It was important for me to know where the diamonds came from and ensure the highest quality, so I sourced directly from the cutters in Mumbai India and sold them directly to jewellers across Europe.” Read the full story.

Seller Performance best practices & upcoming webinar

Amazon places a high importance on maintaining the trust of our millions of satisfied buyers. Here are some tips that will help you be successful selling on Amazon:

  • Provide accurate product data: Use unique standard identifiers (EAN/UPC/ISBN) when creating or matching to product detail pages. Make sure your product description and condition notes are clear and helpful to buyers. It's important that buyers get exactly the product described on the detail page where you place your listing.
  • Check for orders daily: To ship quickly you need to find out about orders promptly. We will e-mail you when you have a sale, but e-mails are unreliable and can be caught by spam filters. That is why we recommend checking for orders daily on Seller Central. Under the Orders tab you can view a list of orders and set up automatic order reports.
  • Confirm when you ship: Amazon charges the buyer's payment method only after shipment is Confirmed. Once an order is placed, you are responsible for confirming shipment within the time that you specified in your shipping settings. (The default is two business days.) To do this, go the Orders tab and click the Confirm Shipment button. Learn more about confirming shipment (Seller Central login required).
  • Check your inventory regularly: Keep an eye on quantity of inventory you have in stock, especially if you sell in multiple channels. Customers who submit orders for products that turn out not to be in stock are likely to leave negative feedback. If you get into this situation, the best move is to quickly inform your customer and, if appropriate, offer to compensate them for their trouble. Learn more about managing inventory Seller Central login required.
  • Keep pricing accurate at all times: The More Buying Choices page displays the lowest priced items first. Amazon shoppers are always looking for the best deals and are more inclined to purchase items that appear at the top of the More Buying Choices page.
  • Be sure to align your shipping and fulfilment policies: The best way to avoid disappointing customers is to set expectations and then meet them. When creating your shipping policy clearly let buyers know how often orders are processed, how frequently you dispatch, the carriers you use, and how to contact you with shipping related questions.  Customers will be disappointed if their item arrives late or the item is damaged; this can lead to negative feedback, returns, or A-to-z Guarantee claims, all of which may have negative consequences to your Seller Account.
  • Be accessible to customers: Nothing is more frustrating to a customer than not knowing the status of their order. Respond quickly to customer contacts and notify them when an order's shipment is delayed. Make it easy for customers to know how to reach you so that they trust that you will make their sales experience go smoothly.
  • Build a good feedback rating: Customers pay close attention to feedback, and so do we as we monitor your performance. We've found that the keys to good feedback are getting items to customers quickly, accurately describing your items, and being prompt and responsive to their questions. You may also want to solicit feedback on your packing slips. Learn more about feedback (Seller Central login required).
  • Handle returns and refunds gracefully: No one looks forward to taking returns and making refunds, but it is part of selling and a requirement of the Amazon sales process.  Taking returns gracefully can lead to better feedback about your customer service.  Please note that you are required to take returns of most items up to 30 days after delivery and your returns policies must be at least as favourable to buyers on Amazon.co.uk as the Amazon refund policies (Seller Central login required)
  • Know where to look for answers: Take time to examine all the tools on Seller Central as well as your legal agreement and our other policies. If you have questions, a good place to begin is the Seller Central Help link located in the upper right hand corner of the page. Go to Help (Seller Central login required).

We are pleased to invite you to our upcoming "Selling on Amazon" webinar on Tuesday, 4th June 2013 -  10AM-11AM UK time, where we will explain how to be a successful seller by meeting Amazon's perfomance targets as well as understanding Amazon's performance review and notification process.

Improve the quality for your product listings through the personalized alerts

Listing Quality Alerts (Seller Central login required) highlight opportunities for you to improve the quality of your listings.

The Listings with Missing Information report shows which of your products are missing important information, and provides an easy way to add the missing information.

Adding the missing information could help customers find your products and make a buying decision. While we can't guarantee specific results, and while some product information is more important to buyers than other product information, listings that have all of the important information tend to sell significantly faster than products missing that information.

To find the report, go to Site Metrics and Reports (Seller Central login required) and select "Listings with Missing Information" from the drop-down list of reports.

Alternatively, if you use feeds to manage your listings, the Listing Quality and Suppressed Listing Report (Seller Central login required) can help to identify listings with missing or invalid information.

More information on how to use the Listing Quality Alerts here (Seller Central login required).
